The ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst show cased his photography skills with a 12,500 image time lapse of the earth. Gerst returned to earth after spending five and a half months on the International Space Station. His job onboard the station was to carry out 50+ experiments and during his free time he would set up cameras to take pictures at regular interval.

The output of his dedication to his passion for photography is a stunning time lapse with images of auroras, sunrises, clouds, stars, oceans, the Milky Way, ISS and more into a mesmerizing montage, released this week by the European Space Agency.
