A star which has been coined the US 708 has been found speeding through the galaxy faster than any other seen before. Why is it speeding ? That reason being that it has been blasted away by the explosion of a neighboring partner star. It has been calculated to be moving at 1200 KM per second making it a pulsar, at this speed you could reach the moon in 5 minutes. The speed of the star is so fast that it will actually be able to leave the Milky way in 25 million years.
The US 708 is not the first ever fast moving star but it is the first that has had its movement and speed triggered by a supernova explosion. It was once a cool giant star which was feeding its hydrogen to its partnering star which in turn resulted in this massive supernova explosion. Scientists are now tracking its movements as it travels across the galaxy.
